Fan questions answered...

When you're having a bad day and nothing is working well, how do you handle it? - Mikael, Sweden

Ana: Everyone has bad days. It's important that you accept it, and try and learn from every difficult experience so that you turn it into a positive. I've had some tough losses but I tried to learn from each of them to become a better player.

How do you feel about being a role model for the thousands or even millions of young women out there who follow tennis? – Mark

Ana: That's an incredible honor. It's not something I ever imagined, but when someone says something like that I feel very proud. I am lucky enough to be doing something that I love, and I think it's important to set a good example to younger people.

I think you're one of the most complete players nowadays, you have been able to go much further in the Grand Slams on any surface. Have you ever dreamt of completing the Grand Slam one of these years? Alex – Italy

Ana: To win all four Grand Slams in a year would be extremely tough if not impossible, because women's tennis is so strong these days. But my goal is definitely to win all of them at some point in my career, and of course I am trying my best to win all of them in the same year!

Ice baths, Prison Break, press conferences, TV interviews, practice and watching the Federer-Djokovic match sums up my preparation yesterday. You can probably guess which activity I enjoyed the least! I began taking ice baths last year and they've become an important part of my recovery process. The first time I took one it was almost painful - I was screaming. The way it works is that I spend two minutes in the ice bath, then two minutes in a hot shower and I repeat this three or four times. It's obviously not very pleasant to feel such coldness, but while in the bath I just think how much it is benefiting me. Last year I dreaded them but now I see the benefits so I actually volunteer to take them.

No matter what the result, we will have a big party at my uncle's house because it's his birthday. He will combine it with kind of a post-tournament celebration for me, which is very kind of him. I haven't had the chance to go out to Mentone during the tournament, but it's always one of my favorite things to do when I come to Melbourne.

I'm trying not to get too excited about the match. This is obviously one of the best achievements of my career and I want so much to go one step further. I don't feel like I've played my very best tennis during this tournament, but if I can produce it today I have a good chance.

Maria and I have played each other four times. She beat me in Linz towards the end of 2006. It was a close match in which I had some chances. I got some revenge last year in Tokyo - I was leading 6-1, 0-1 when she retired. Then I beat her in the French Open semifinals last year, which is one of the biggest wins of my career so far. In Madrid five months later she got her own revenge by beating me in straight sets. So I know her game pretty well. I've noticed from watching her a little bit in her last couple of matches that she has improved her footwork. Her movement was a weakness when I played her in Paris and I was able to take advantage of that, but it looks like this is no longer the case. Her serve is also working very well. Her first serve is a very important part of her game - if it's working well she is extremely tough to break and her groundstrokes always seem to work better when her serve is on.

I think it's great for women’s tennis that two young players are in the final. I don't think many people would have predicted this match as the final and I hope it will be an exciting occasion for the spectators.

I found out from a journalist that I'm now No.2 in the rankings. It's a great feeling. I used to think too much about rankings and this made me feel more pressure, and because of this I almost stopped improving for a while. These days I don't even look at the rankings. Usually I find out something like this from my father or my management, but it was a nice surprise to hear it during my press conference on Thursday.

It's at a time like this that you really appreciate the support of those around you. My team, especially my mum, really do everything they can to make things as easy as possible for me, and to give me the best chance of winning.

Tennis has changed a lot over the years and it's become more like a business. I've heard stories from a long time ago of players running around the grounds just an hour before their match organizing tickets for their friends and family. Luckily my team arranges all that, so I am able to focus fully on my tennis. There is a great atmosphere in my team. Everyone is very positive. Of course it's human nature for them to enjoy it more when I am winning, but at the same time they don't treat me any differently when I lose, and I appreciate that a lot. It seems as though they are superstitious too: I notice they are all sitting in the same seats in the players' box!

Hopefully that can bring me luck today. But whatever happens, it's been an incredible experience and one that I will never forget.

Love,

Ana
