Hey everybody!

Today hasn't been so busy, especially compared to the last several days. I had a practice session, an autograph session, got a vaccine and had a short shopping trip with my mom. But I didn't buy anything on the trip except for a smoothie (it was one I hadn't had before, with peanut butter, banana, soy milk and I'm not sure what else... it was pretty good!)

I usually book my practice courts on one of the further courts on the site and my coach is always complaining about it and asking me, 'Why do you always book your practice courts in Serbia?' So this morning when they asked me which court I wanted to book I asked for one that was closer, and when I finished, I couldn't get out of the court because there were so many people! I always want to sign for and take pictures with everyone, especially the kids, because when I see their cute faces, I cannot say no. So I told him, 'That's why I go to Serbia to practice!' And now he understands why I book the further courts, so there won't be as many people because it's too far to walk!

The funniest thing was that people were asking for my mom's autograph today too. They tell her, 'You're my favorite tennis mom, can I have an autograph or a picture?' I've never seen a mom give out autographs like that. And now I crack up whenever I see it, I can't believe it! Like I said earlier this week, she's really shy and tries to stay in the background, but people just really like her!

I'm not sure what I'll do the rest of the day. I'm just saving energy, not doing much. After this I'll probably read a book my mom gave me, called 'Secret'. It teaches you about money, health, relationships, just every interaction you'll have in the world. You learn more about yourself and what you can achieve, and 'what true magnificence awaits you in your life'!

Tomorrow I'm up first on Stadium against Ai Sugiyama. She's a very solid and experienced player. I played her for the first time in Doha a few weeks ago. I played well and won in two sets; I know a lot of balls will be coming back so I'll just have to be aggressive and play my game.

To be continued!

Love, JJ ♥

Fan questions answered...

If you could pick a location to hold a tournament that doesn't already host one, which city would that be? - Dayna, USA
Serbia would be a very special place to play. I'd be playing in front of my home supporters in my home country. In December we played a charity exhibition in Serbia and the arena was a full house; I enjoyed the experience and the fans did as well. I would love if there would be any possibility to host a tournament there in the future.

How do you split your time between Belgrade and Miami? - Milena, Serbia
When tournaments are in America, I go back to Miami in between; when the tournaments are in Europe, I go back to Serbia. And in the off-season it depends, although I don't enjoy the cold weather in Serbia in the winters so I'm usually in Miami or somewhere else. But I love both places!

When you play in Miami do you have dozens of tennis players asking if they can stay at your house? - Simon, UK
Hahaha! I've never been asked, but they're more than welcome to, I guess!

If you were a male player, which player would you like to be? - Nikola
Very funny question. Federer, of course! Who wouldn't like to be No.1 and win almost every tournament he plays for so many years?!-----

My match against Sugiyama went very well this morning. It was still pretty cold and also windy out there, but because of that I was really concentrated from the first point of the match. I tried to dictate the points, be really aggressive and put her under pressure, and it worked. I made a few double faults at the end of the second set but other than that I feel I played pretty well.

Until now we've had days off in between our matches but I don't have a day off tomorrow; the whole draw plays fourth round matches and I'm playing Medina Garrigues. It has been almost a year since I played her. She likes to play really long points, so again I'll have to be really aggressive and try to do the things I've been working on in my practice. I'm okay with not having a day off tomorrow, because this is what it's like in almost all of the tournaments during the season.

I'd like to thank the lady who gave me a really nice necklace today. While I was playing, she gave my mom a silver necklace with a crystal tennis ball on it, to give to me (when we leave the Stadium court, we go through a tunnel, and we don't get too close to the fans because of it). It was really beautiful. She's a big fan of mine and likes the way I play. I'm really thankful, it's a beautiful gesture!

After the match I went to practice my serve and some other shots for a little bit, then I did some exercises for my back. I've been doing a lot of exercises with my trainer to strengthen certain areas so that I can prevent any injuries. I had some injuries earlier in the year and they were really tough to deal with, so now we're working on stopping them before they even happen.

The funniest thing that happened today came during our trip to the supermarket. As you all probably know, it's sometimes very cold in supermarkets. Three or four days ago we went to one and my mom was wearing a sleeveless shirt, and then the next day her nose was runny and she got a cold. So when we went there today she told me to wear this winter jacket, and it even had fur on the back! So there I was, walking around the supermarket with a big winter jacket on. It has actually gotten a little cold here in Palm Springs (usually it's much warmer but this year it has been a bit cold... but not cold enough for this jacket!) I kept it on outside too, but of course I took the jacket off when we got to the hotel. It was embarrassing! Unfortunately, I think I may be catching a bit of a cold anyway. I have a small headache. I should be okay though; maybe tonight I'll have another bath and some aromatherapy too, I really enjoy that.

I'm not sure what we'll do the rest of the night. I'll probably just relax. Last night we went out for dinner to one of the best Italian restaurants here and ran into so many players! You're used to seeing everyone at the tournament but when you leave you don't expect to; but one by one they were all popping up! I've never seen so many of them in one restaurant before.

I'll talk to you all again tomorrow...

Love,

JJ ♥

A lot of players are focused on winning matches. Others claim the most important thing is to have fun. Which is it for you? - Kai, Netherlands
Both! Winning is important but you need to enjoy yourself on the court. Playing and practicing is so much easier if you make it fun.

I read somewhere that you have a very sweet tooth! What are your favorite desserts? - Jon, UK
I like any dessert with chocolate. I can be a fanatic. I can almost live on sweets, which is probably not good for an athlete, so I try to avoid them whenever I can. But as soon as I have some time off I love it. It's a bad habit. I admit, I have a sweet tooth. I'm a sweet girl, what can I say? Hahaha.

Which tournaments in the clay court season are you looking forward to the most? - Bali, India
Charleston, Rome and Roland Garros! I had a great clay court season last year. I won two Tier Is and got to the semis at the French, so of course, I'm looking forward to those three the most.
