Hey dudes!

It was another early morning today. I woke up at 6, had some breakfast and at 7 was already doing some fitness with my physical trainer, who arrived last night. I had a practice session at 8 and then had a a smoothie, a sandwich and a coffee at Starbucks with my mom. After that I had a manicure and pedicure; as tennis players, our feet are always getting beat up, and a lot of times I have pain and blisters. It's very important to take care of your feet, and so I have regular pedicures. For women in general this is very important! And as for the manicures, I think you can all see that my nails are always painted. I usually have bright colors but I kept it neutral this time, just keeping it a bit quieter. I like to change it up now and then.

In the afternoon I had another hitting session and a workout in the gym. And then came the most interesting thing of the day, a gymnastics photo shoot for the Olympics book. For the shoot I had to choose a sport other than my own, and I chose gymnastics because I did that as a seven-year-old. And it was so much fun! I wore black sparkly leotards and after some help from the national team instructor I was doing gymnastics poses for the photos. The funniest part was when I was on the balance beam and kept losing my balance and falling off; I even ended up cramping on there a few times, which is not really surprising after training hard today. You've seen me do the splits on the court but it was so hard to do it on the balance beam! But at the end we took some really nice pictures. And after the photo shoot, I had the pleasure to take a nice group photo with the young gymnasts. They're very talented. We all struck a pose with the splits and I'm posting it for you all.

It's definitely one of the more different things I've ever done. It took a lot of hard work to get the right pose but we did it and I had a great time, and now you can see I have other talents too! Haha... Now I'm going to go back and get a nice massage, have dinner and just relax after another long day, and then go to bed.

Love,

JJ ♥

Fan questions answered...

Which do you prefer, Indian Wells or Miami? - Claire, USA
I like both of them a lot. It's hard to compare them, because they're completely different tournaments. Indian Wells is quiet and relaxed, but Miami is very busy and is quite electric. It's also very crowded. But I have a house in Miami, which is great, so I can just stay at home. In the end they're both big tournaments and all of the best players play them, so they're both very exciting.

Do you worry about your ranking during the season? - Rion, USA
During the season, your ranking will go up and down within a certain group, but I think the most important one is the year-end ranking. But throughout the year the most important thing is to just concentrate on your game and produce your best tennis. The ranking will come along with that, and I try not to think about it. I just try to enjoy the tennis as much as I can.

What did you work on during the off-season? - Douglas, Canada
Actually, during the off-season I had surgery and was in bed for three weeks. I wasn't active at all, so I couldn't really do any of the work I wanted to. So I was really behind when I started the season and got some injuries, which didn't help my results. I'm healthy now and just trying to get back in form.

What's up!

Today was a pretty standard day for me at Indian Wells. I woke up early as usual, hit for about two hours, did some fitness work and then had my yearly physical examination. We players have these once a year and it's like a check-up. They just make sure we're all healthy and look for any potential problems we may be having, so they can help us with them. It's very important to take care of your health, no matter what your profession. And mine went fine - they said, "You're a healthy kid!" Haha... The exam took a few hours but when it was done, I was done all of my tennis obligations for the day, which is great because I have my first match tomorrow and wanted to have some time to relax a little bit.

I think the most interesting part of the day actually came when my mom was interviewed for TV! My mom really doesn't feel comfortable giving interviews. She tries to stay behind the scenes but the media looks at her as a good, positive example of a parent or a tennis parent, and they're always trying to talk to her, and so you'll see her giving interviews a lot, especially during my matches. She's usually very outgoing and outspoken, but when it comes to interviews she gets a little bit shy, especially because it's not in her native language. But she ends up doing a lot of them anyway! And she does very well

My mom plays a huge role in my career. Both of my parents have sacrificed so much and have always been supportive of me, and they're a really good inspiration in my life. I wouldn't be where I am without them. But it's my mom who travels everywhere with me, and not only is she really fun to be around but she's also a great parent. She has given me the right values and teaches me so much about life. She never put pressure on me and always taught me to stay positive and be who I am. It's for all of these reasons that she is the highest salaried person in my team - her payment is pure love! ♥♥♥

My room service just came. I'm too tired to go out for dinner so I'm just staying in and relaxing in my room. I'll probably just read a book before bed and that's basically it, other than preparing my stuff for tomorrow. I'm first on at 11am, which is fine, because as you know I've been getting up really early all week! I've never played Ahsha Rolle before, nor have I really seen her play much, but I'm just going to focus on my game and try to execute my shots as best I can. I've been working really hard the last couple of days on the practice court and I hope that will translate to the match court.

I hope you're all doing well and have a good night,

A big hug from JJ! ♥

Fan questions answered...

What is the hardest thing about playing a match? - Ashlee, New Zealand
For me, it's the conditions, especially the heat. When the temperature goes above 100 degrees, it can be very tough for human beings to function at their best. Even the spectators have a hard time watching in that heat! The wind can also give players problems. I think every player has something different that bothers them in a match; we're all individuals and all have different reactions to all the factors that play a role in a tennis match.

Which is more important for you, winning a Grand Slam or becoming No.1? - Carolyn, UK
They're both very important! But I think in order to get to No.1, you've got to win a Grand Slam, because those tournaments give you the most ranking points. For me, I definitely need to win one to get closer to No.1.

Did you get your luggage back? - Zarifa, Canada
I actually did, TODAY! They have arrived safe and sound, five days later. Thank you for asking and for reading my blog! It looks like the bags wanted a longer holiday in Dubai!
